Who likes contests? Everyone likes contests — heck, it’s a chance at free goodies. Even if you don’t win, you aren’t really out anything. Here are some pointers to various WoW-related contests that are currently running here and there:

• Would you like to be in the Cataclysm beta? NowGamer is giving away a staggering 1,000 Cataclysm beta keys. Check out the site for details — and I hope you like Twitter.
• Attending BlizzCon in the flesh? You can get free passes to the pre-screening of The Raid, a Blue Loon film about the world of raiding and what it means to be a raider. There are a whole slew of people in the WoW community giving away passes to this event; you can check the full list of giveaway sites on The Raid’s official site.

The random dungeon finder has certainly made it much easier for people to find groups for various dungeons, even more so if you happen to be a tank or a healer — but even DPS players don’t have to wait too terribly long to get a dungeon out of the way. The best part, for me, is the surprise element of the random dungeon feature. You never know what you’re going to run or who you’re going to be running it with. Sometimes you end up with good people, and sometimes you end up with bad — which is where the vote-kicking feature comes in. Let’s take a look around the blogosphere and see what others have to say about grouping:

Dear, dear Bolvar Fordragon. You may be caught off guard in the image above, but you can still handle yourself around a bunch of dragons. Player versus dragon may be easy for you, but player versus player is often a little more surprising than even a small fleet of dragons suddenly appearing in the throne room of Stormwind. I love the picture of Velen shown above for a couple of different reasons. It’s a gorgeous piece of artwork, but the bigger reason is the expression on Velen’s face — he looks mildly baffled, like he’s shrugging his shoulders and saying “Uhhhh, I don’t know!” To me, the thought of an alien over 10,000 years making that noncommittal grunt of vague confusion is just endlessly entertaining. It seems to happen to everyone at some point or another: the game’s no longer as exciting as it used to be, and your logins become sporadic and finally vanish entirely. Patch 3.3.5 is here, and with it comes the introduction of the RealID system, and many, many opinions about the use of it. While I thought the feature was interesting and well worth playing with on the test realms, I do enjoy my privacy — and until Blizzard introduces an “invisible” setting for the RealID system, I won’t be using it.
